Skyros is the southernmost island of the Sporades. Located east of Evia, which lies around 35 km and is the largest island of the Sporades (210 sq. km. Miles).
Skyros is linked both ferry and air to the rest of Greece. From the port of Linaria there is daily connection with Evia and the port of Kymi with Skyros Shipping Company, local interests, with the ferry Achilleas. It runs once daily in each direction throughout the winter and spring and throughout the summer schedules are twice most days. The journey takes about 1 hour and 45 minutes. From the port of Kymi, there are regular flights of ferry routes to Halkida (lasting about 2 hours) and Athens (duration about 3 hours).

Skyros has an airport which serves the military air base (135 SM) in place Trachi in the northern part of the island. Skyros Airport is about 17 km from the town.

Today, air transport connection is Aegean Airlines and from Athens airport Eleftherios Venizelos and Sky Express to and from Thessaloniki Macedonia Airport.
